Shuttleworth Park was once home to the Amsterdam Rugmakers, a New York Yankees farm team that played in the Canadian-American League of Professional Baseball from 1938 to 1951. In the 1940s, the Yankees played two exhibition games there, when it was called Mohawk Mills Park. Joe DiMaggio came to Amsterdam for the 1942 exhibition game and hit a home run over the right field fence. The Yankees returned in 1949 for a second game featuring Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto. The 1942 game was especially remarkable because the grandstand had burned eight days before the Yankees arrived, but by game day every barbecued seat had been replaced and the park's total capacity had been increased by 200 seats. The park is named for Herbert Shuttleworth, chief executive officer of Mohasco Corporation and president of the Amsterdam Rugmakers.
