Kinsale, on the Yeocomico River two miles east, was founded by order of the Assembly in 1784. Nearby at the old home of the Bailey family, "The Great House," is the tomb of Midshipman James B. Sigourney, who while in command of the sloop "Asp" fell in an engagement with the British in the Yeocomico River on June 14, 1813.
