On November 11, 1803, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark arrived at Fort Massac, where they spent three days recruiting men to join their westward expedition and hired George Drouillard to serve as an interpreter. Known for his hunting and scouting skills, Drouillard became a valuable member of the expedition.
