The Busch Greenway passes through Missouri Research Park, linking the Katy Trail on the east with the Hamburg Trail in the Weldon Spring Conservation Area on the west. This 700-acre high-tech and research corridor is part of the University of Missouri System's statewide network of research parks and was opened in 1985 to provide affordable, high-quality laboratory and office space for emerging companies. Its technology infrastructure and high-tech orientation attract startup companies from university research efforts as well as national and international tenants, helping turn new ideas into successful business opportunities, create jobs, advance Missouri's economy, and benefit campus research. The University maintains a campus-like setting through high-quality architectural and landscape design integrated with a carefully preserved natural environment, leaving at least a third of each tenant site as green space amid rolling hills, old hardwood forests, walking trails, and four scenic lakes. The area also includes the Duckett Creek Sanitary District, whose high-tech wastewater treatment plant began operations in 1997, treats up to eight million gallons of wastewater a day for more than 24,000 people in a 30-square mile area, uses a natural treatment process with no chemicals, recycles all end products back into nature, and was built with environmentally sound practices on the Missouri River bluff. Missouri Bluffs Golf Club is another feature of the vicinity, an 18-hole championship course shaped by architect Tom Fazio on steep, wooded terrain, where wildlife is common and which has hosted qualifying tournaments for the PGA Tour and USGA as well as events including the St. Louis Nike Classic.
