The Union Springs Train Depot was built in 1899 and became a significant landmark in the town's early 20th century experience. Although the depot building no longer exists, the Coal Chute associated with the railroad was built in 1925 to replace an earlier community coal chute that had burned. It loaded coal into the tenders of steam engines, and the towering concrete structure still stands near the bed of the abandoned Montgomery & Eufaula Railroad, dominating the surrounding landscape.
