The majestic pin oak (quercus palustris) has stood on this spot for over 150 years. It is almost 17 feet in circumference, over 100 feet tall, and has a crown of over 90 feet. In the late 1800's, this tree and others were part of the landscape of a large farm known as Forest Place, the home of Dr. John Peach, a Mitchellville native. In 1986, this pin oak was recorded as the national, state, and county champion for its species.
