Barnie Jordan Jr., a native of Edgefield County and longtime resident of Richland County, was born in 1909 and died in 1980. During 35 years as a general contractor, he built more than 1,000 miles of roads, streets, and highways in South Carolina, including this section of U.S. 76 / 378 between Columbia and Waterlee River. It was dedicated in 1983 in his honor.
