Flying Eagle Preserve is a 10,950-acre protected area in Inverness, Florida, managed by the Southwest Florida Water Management District along the eastern side of the Withlacoochee River and largely encircled by the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes. Its setting gives it a strongly water-oriented character and makes it a well-known place for aquatic and sporting recreation. The preserve includes land that was once the McGregor Smith Scout Reservation as well as Withlapopka Community Park, a 50-acre area created from former Citrus County spoil-dumping ground. Today the park offers an unpaved loop trail, picnic amenities, and spaces for casual games and outdoor leisure.
