Leila Arboretum is a 72-acre public arboretum and garden in Battle Creek, Michigan, created after Leila Post Montgomery bought a former country club property in 1922 and gave it to the city for public use. Expanded by additional donations and designed by T. Clifton Shepard between 1924 and 1930, it developed as part of a broader educational vision that included cultural institutions. Laid out in a European garden style, it contains nearly 1,700 accessioned woody plants and about 25,000 plants overall, with many plantings dating to the 1920s. After decline and overgrowth, volunteers began restoring the gardens in 1982, and the arboretum remains a public landscape with historic and botanical significance.
