Wachapreague Channel is an inlet on Virginia’s Eastern Shore that runs from the town of Wachapreague through seaside marshes to the barrier islands and the Atlantic Ocean between Cedar Island and Parramore Island. By directly linking the town with marsh and open water, it became a practical and popular route for fishermen. Its name comes from the Algonquian people who lived in the area centuries ago. The channel also lent its name to the USS Wachapreague, a United States Navy motor torpedo boat tender that served from 1943 to 1946 during World War II.
