St. Peter is a three-masted Great Lakes cargo schooner wreck in Lake Ontario northeast of Pultneyville, New York. Built in 1873, it sank in a fierce blizzard on October 27, 1898, after battling towering seas and high winds while carrying chestnut coal westbound toward Toledo. A United States Life-Saving Service boat reached the scene as the vessel was going down and saved the unconscious captain, but his wife and four crew members died. Discovered in 1971, the wreck lies upright in 117 feet of water with its deck and lower hull intact, making it both a well-preserved archaeological site and a popular dive destination.
