The C.C. Williams Home stood on this parcel at the intersection of Main and Richmond in Mount Vernon, where current residents remember the prominent house with its wraparound porch before it was destroyed in a devastating fire in 2005. It was the home of C.C. Williams, or Casper C. Williams, and was later known as Mrs. Nesbitt's finishing school. The Williams family settled in Rockcastle around 1810, when Rockcastle County was formed and Mount Vernon became the county seat. C.C. Williams's father, D.N. Williams, became an important businessman in town, serving for many years as county clerk and operating a druggist business on Main Street. Born in 1861, C.C. Williams entered the legal profession, specializing in collections, with his office on the 2nd floor of the Bank of Mount Vernon on Church Street. He also served as president of the Bank of Mount Vernon and president of the Rockcastle Bar Association. John St. Clair Sr. later purchased the property and opened a plumbing business in a small brick and block building. The land was eventually purchased by the City of Mount Vernon with the understanding that the vacant lot would be landscaped and improved to benefit the appearance of the Main Street intersection.
