The Heart of Texas Wildlife Trail is a state-designated network of wildlife trails and sanctuaries in Central Texas and one of Texas’s four major wildlife trail systems. Its protected sites are arranged in two principal groupings for wildlife viewing. One extends from the Coleman area near Abilene through Austin and San Antonio to Laredo. The other forms a cluster across the Texas Hill Country and the southwest Rio Grande Valley, roughly bounded by San Angelo, Del Rio, and Fredericksburg. Together these groupings make the region an organized destination for observing wildlife across a broad stretch of central and south-central Texas.
