The George Blossom House, a single-family home at 4858 South Kenwood Avenue in Chicago, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1892 during his earliest years, before he opened his independent practice. It is one of the homes Wright later called his “bootleg houses,” created while he was still a draftsman for Adler and Sullivan and officially barred from taking private commissions. That setting makes the house important in his career as evidence of him testing his own approach to residential design while still employed by established architects. Architecturally, it is a notable Colonial Revival house with an almost symmetrical composition broken by a rear conservatory.
