North Franklin Mountain, or North Franklin Peak, is El Paso’s highest point at 7,192 feet and the northernmost of the Franklin Mountains’ two main peaks, though it lies in the central range. Rising sharply above the Mesilla Valley and Hueco Bolson, its triangular profile has long served as a desert landmark near the Paso del Norte. The mountain preserves evidence of human presence stretching back more than 12,000 years and reflects deep geological history, with ancient Precambrian and volcanic rocks. It also bears traces of a short-lived tin mine worked from 1909 to 1915. Today it remains a prominent hiking destination with sweeping regional views.
