A battle was fought at this site on April 9, 1865. The park here was later made a standpoint of cherished heritage through the efforts of many people, with sponsorship by Dick Anderson Chapter No. 75 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and involvement by Wm. E. Brunson III, a noted War Between the States arms and records collector.
