Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, opened in 2011 as a nonprofit founded by Alice Walton and devoted to widening access to American art through free general admission. Set on 120 acres of native forest around Crystal Spring, the museum was designed by Moshe Safdie as eight interconnected pavilions integrated into an Ozark ravine. Its collection spans five centuries, from colonial portraiture to contemporary work, and includes major holdings such as Kindred Spirits, Rosie the Riveter, and Jimson Weed. Backed by major foundation and corporate funding, it has expanded with the Bachman-Wilson House and The Momentary and has helped reshape Bentonville’s cultural and economic profile.
