Hotel Lodi opened on May 1, 1915. James Whitaker had owned the first Lodi Hotel in 1870, and in 1912 E.B. Brown drew plans for a new hotel. Cary Bros. carried out excavation and preliminary work, and in 1914 the property was sold to Lodi Investment Co., with W.H. Thompson as president, Mr. Green as contractor, and R.P. Morrell as architect. The estimated cost was $150,000.00, and A.M. Jones was the first proprietor. The hotel became the unofficial headquarters of Eastern buyers of Lodi fruit. A Pine Street annex was added in 1920, and a new banquet room, later named the Gold Room, was formally opened by the Lodi Rotary Club on October 26, 1922. Major fires occurred in June 1940 and August 1960. The Graffigna family owned the hotel from 1945 to 1991, and in 1998 it was refurbished by Daniels C. Logue, Development and Construction Co.
