The Trans-Canyon Telephone Line linked the South Rim, Inner Canyon, and North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park along an about 18-mile route from near Bright Angel Lodge, down Pipe Creek, across the Colorado River, and up Bright Angel Creek to the Wylie Way Tourist Camp. In place by 1924, it was modified in 1935, 1938, and 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and then remained unchanged. Built with 592 pipe assemblies to reduce disturbance, it was also a rare surviving example of open-wire copper-weld technology. Its engineering and importance to the park’s development led to its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
