In December 1682, William Penn attended a meeting of the Friends, or Quakers, at Thomas Hooker’s on this tract called Brownton, which had been patented in 1652 for 660 acres. From here, Penn sailed across the Bay to the Choptank River for a General Meeting of the Friends.
