Chief Joc-O-Sot was a distinguished Indian chief of the Algonquin Nation, Osaukee Tribe, and Bear Clan, born at Saukeenuk, Iowa, in 1810 and dying in Cleveland in 1844. Brave in war and valiant in peace, he was wounded in the Black Hawk War, and that wound finally caused his death. After the war, he served as ambassador of the Indians to the great white father, President Tyler, and died in Cleveland on his return journey.
