Marietta National Military Cemetery contains the remains of 10,132 officers and soldiers who died in defence of the Union between 1861 and 1865. A dedication plaque on one of the marble columns honors Henry Greene Cole of Marietta, Georgia, who gave these grounds to his country, and records that the tablet was erected by the Government of the United States.
