North Sassafras Parish was established by Act of Assembly in 1692. Its first vestry met on January 10, 1693, in the Court House at Ordinary Point. The Parish Church was dedicated to the honor of Saint Stephen on March 25, 1706, and it was rebuilt in 1737, 1823, and 1873.
