On October 11, 1838, the Potawatomi emigration moved from the encampment of the previous two days and marched pleasantly without difficulties. Eight hundred fifty Potawatomi camped at Pleasant Spring near Palmyra, Missouri. Captain J. Holman of Peru, Iowa, arrived in camp to serve as Assistant Superintendent. A woman died shortly after the camp was made. An ox wagon transporting Indians lost its cattle and had to remain behind with its load, and the wagon and those left to hunt the oxen were expected to rejoin the next day after a march of 13 miles.
