Joseph Armstrong settled here on land applied for in 1737 and warranted in 1752. He was a member of the Assembly from 1750 to 1755, served as a captain of militia in 1755, and served in the Pennsylvania Regiment from 1756 to 1757. He died in 1761. His home was used in 1757 as a ranging station for troops in the French and Indian War and during Pontiac's War in 1763 to 1764.
