THE STORY
Narrated · Plays hands-free in Travel Mode
Known as Jugtown for its 1761 "Jug" tavern, this community became Bethlehem by 1843 and West End by 1880 for its iron works. It was later named Ferndean and then West Portal by 1888. Its 1870's 4900' LVRR tunnel was then the longest in the East.
