Veterans of Marion County are honored for serving their country in World War II, from December 7, 1941 to September 2, 1945, the Korean War, from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953, and the Vietnam War, from March 1965 to January 1973. Special honor is also given to those men who gave their lives for freedom, including Marion County Vietnam veterans Bergess Frederick Wilson, Alfred Jimmy Herring Jr., William Harvey Causey, Dayton Joseph Hooks, James Currie Jr., Cleveland Osborne Johnson, Ronnie Lee Davis, Daniel James Mack, William C. Fore, Harris Lee Williams, James Donald Gibson, and Benjamin Jeffe Williamson. The tribute was given by the citizens of Marion County and spearheaded by Woodmen of the World on May 24, 1986.
