Rocky Peak is a 6,218-foot summit in Washington’s Olympic Mountains, within Olympic National Park south of Port Angeles. Linked by Klahhane Ridge to nearby Mount Angeles, it rises along Hurricane Ridge Road on one of the park’s best-known alpine routes. The name was in local use from the time of the area’s earliest settlers. In the north-central Olympics, a marine west coast climate brings heavy winter precipitation, often wet snow, and clearer summers under Pacific high pressure. Rocky Peak consists of obducted clastic wedge material and oceanic crust, including Eocene sandstone, turbidite, and basaltic crust, and its shape was further carved by Pleistocene glaciation and erosion.
