Connecticut Veterans Memorial West Hartford was commissioned by the Town Council of West Hartford in June 2001 to honor West Hartford men and women who gave their lives during war. Its black granite Wall of Peace is engraved with the names of local fallen heroes, and its spiral is broken each time the United States entered war. The Walk of Remembrance, which encircles the Wall of Peace, contains the names of men and women from across the country who served in the armed forces, while a timeline of events significant to West Hartford runs along the outer edge. At the center is the Court of Honor. On dedication day, May 21, 2006, waters from the seven oceans and soils from battlefields, cemeteries, and prisoner of war camps from throughout the world were folded into West Hartford earth. The memorial also bears inscriptions naming West Hartford dead from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, and Global War on Terror.
