Land was originally granted to Phillip Calvert, Chancellor of Maryland, and his wife, Anne, in 1658. Richard Low, a gentleman of Virginia, purchased the tract known as Hazelmore and the adjacent land The Grove in 1665. Abraham Wild, a trader and mariner of England, bought it in 1670. Edward Warner of London purchased the plantation in 1701 and gave it to his son Richard in 1722. It is now a private community known as Hazelmoor that originated from the Chesapeake Land Improvement Company.
