Salt Fork State Park in eastern Ohio, about six miles north of Lore City, is the state’s largest park, encompassing 17,229 acres of land and 2,952 acres of water. Named for a mineral lick on Salt Fork Creek, it grew from a 1956 water-supply dam project that shifted to recreation in 1960. An earthen dam was finished in 1967, recreational development began in 1968, and Salt Fork Lodge opened in 1972. Centered on a large lake, the park offers swimming, golf, boating, hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and fishing, while the Kennedy Stone House preserves a link to the region’s older settlement history.
