The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk aircraft was acquired by the Kenner Naval Museum Commission and underwent a total external restoration by the 122nd Bomb Squadron Restoration Unit of the Louisiana National Guard Jackson Barracks Museum, led by the late Clarence Eckelmann, with the work completed in September 2002. With over 5,563 active flying hours, the aircraft served the Navy with distinction from its acceptance on November 27, 1959, to its deactivation on May 11, 1974. It was restored in the appropriate paint scheme of a squadron that flew missions off the USS Wasp during the Vietnam War and stands as a memorial to the naval aviators of that conflict.
