The anchor from the S.S. Grandcamp was blown from the ship when it exploded on April 16, 1947, while moored at the Texas City Terminal docks. Originally weighing about 3200 pounds, the anchor was hurled to a point on Pan American property at 2000-S and 2160-E, where it sank about 10 feet into the soil. It traveled 1.62 miles, or 8575 linear feet, from the ship to its landing point.
