This original brick building was in continuous use as a foundry for more than 110 years. The famous Pelton Waterwheel was developed and manufactured here in 1878. Its ingenious double-cupped bucket was designed by Lester A. Pelton of Camptonville and Nevada City, and it became the basis for hydro-electric turbine generators throughout the world.
