Osseo was founded in 1857 by J.E. Irish. Its population was 305 in 1893 and grew to 1701 in the 2010 census. The city is located at the intersection of I-94 and U.S. Highways 10 and 53, with I-94 serving as a major link to Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, and the Twin Cities. The Osseo-Fairchild School District is located there and serves 1,000 students with academics, arts, and extracurricular activities, and the high school includes an auditorium, fitness center, and indoor walking track. Mayo Clinic Health System - Oakridge is located in the city and includes an 18-bed critical access hospital and transitional care unit, a 21-bed skilled care nursing home, a 14-unit residential care complex, and urgent care for minor health concerns needing same-day medical attention. Osseo also has two churches, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis and sand volleyball courts, a 9-hole golf course and clubhouse, baseball and softball fields, picnic and playground areas, designated ATV and snowmobile trails, and two industrial parks, including the West Industrial Park and the East Industrial Park, where land was purchased in 1990 at the I-94 interchange and development has continued steadily.
