Historic Ridge Road ran from Genesee to Niagara along the Trail of the Iroquois and was traced by Eli Granger in 1798. DeWitt Clinton traveled it in 1810. Seymour Murdock, the first permanent settler of the town of Ridgeway, was located on this property in 1810. One hundred feet southeast stood a barn whose framework was raised by Seymour Murdock with assistance from General Izards troops in 1813, and that same year his daughter, Betsey Murdock, taught Ridgeway's first school in the barn.
