Rezin P. Bowie, brother of Alamo hero James Bowie, wrote that he made the first Bowie knife in the Parish of Avoyelles. James used this knife to kill Norris Wright in the famous Sandbar Fight near Natchez, Miss., Sept. 19, 1827.
