Granite Peak, in northwestern Nevada, is the highest point in both the Santa Rosa Range and Humboldt County. Located in the Santa Rosa Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, it lies about 12 miles north of Paradise Valley and 23 miles southeast of McDermitt. The mountain stands out for its dramatic relief in an already remote landscape. Ranked as the eighteenth-most topographically prominent peak in Nevada, it rises above surrounding terrain with unusual dominance. No higher mountain stands within more than 80 miles in any direction, giving Granite Peak an especially commanding presence over the region.
