Sharon Baptist Church was organized by the Rev. James Hickey. Its charter members were Robert and Adeline Hogarth, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Tolar, Mrs. Sarah Smith, Mrs. Mahoney, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Sullivant, and Mrs. Celia Weeks. T.H. and C.B. Hayden gave the property for the church, and Allen W. and May Monroe gave cemetery land on Sept. 9, 1886. East of the church, in the heart of the rural Sharon community, were the Green/Melrose railroad station from 1883 to 1899 and the post office from 1884 to 1904.
