In honor and memory of deceased veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might live in peace, PFC Denzil M. Decker of the US Marines lost his life on September 18, 1944, while landing on Palau Island in the Pacific at age 19, and T/SGT Mareno P. Malatesta of the US Air Force, a tail gunner on a B-17, lost his life while flying a mission over Vienna, Austria, on August 22, 1944, at age 28.
