Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge preserves a forested mountain landscape in northeastern Washington, east of Colville on the western slope of the Selkirk Mountains. Managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, it is the largest national wildlife refuge in Washington and the only refuge in the system outside Alaska centered on mountainous, mixed-conifer forest. Its significance lies in both its habitat and public use, supporting songbirds, bald eagles, elk, black bears, moose, beavers, cougars, timber wolves, and white-tailed deer, while also providing opportunities for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and horseback riding.
