On June 12, 2016, forty-nine people sought the joy, love, and acceptance of Pulse Nightclub but instead encountered hatred and were killed in a senseless act of violence. They included gay and straight people, Latino, Black, and white people, and mothers, brothers, sisters, daughters, and sons. The tragedy united the community with people across the United States and the world in a determination not to let hate win, while honoring the lives taken, the affected survivors, and all those left behind through a mission centered on love, hope, healing, unity, acceptance, courage, and strength.
