Mary Campbell Cave, also called Old Maid’s Kitchen, is a small rock shelter on the north wall of the Cuyahoga gorge above the Cuyahoga River in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Formed as water moved through porous sandstone and eroded the softer shale beneath, it is a notable geological feature within Gorge Park. The shelter is also associated with the story of Mary Campbell, a twelve-year-old taken from western Pennsylvania in 1759 by Delaware Indians and said to have lived here temporarily after a village was established at the big falls of the Cuyahoga. Returned home in 1764, she became linked to one of the region’s long-retold frontier captivity stories.
