Nearby in Edison Woods stood a brick and tile kiln, a massive furnace that baked moist clay into hard bricks and drainage tile tubes. It used clay from local Edison Woods soils and local trees for fuel. The kiln closed when fuel trees became scarce and natural gas became available. Clay tiles were buried in long rows to drain fields for farming. Bricks from the Waldron Brick and Tile Yard at Driver and Smokey Roads were made from 1884 until the 1920s and were used in construction of numerous local buildings, including the Berlin Heights Opera House, now the Berlin Township Hall, and the Florence Church.
