Fiery Gizzard Trail is a 12.5-mile route in South Cumberland State Park linking Tracy City and Foster Falls in Marion County, Tennessee, celebrated for packing waterfalls, overlooks, swimming holes, rock formations, and old hemlock forest into one rugged hike. Its name comes from Fiery Gizzard Creek, recalling gizzard shad and the stream’s former turbulence, though folklore later added other stories. The area also includes former reservation land of Cherokee warrior Eight Killer and traces of an 1870s ironmaking attempt. Along the trail are Grundy Forest, Blue Hole, Sycamore Falls, the Fruit Bowl, Raven Point, and rich plant and animal life. Volunteer rerouting in 2015 and 2016 preserved access and secured the trail’s future.
