The one room country school known as the Mast School was built in 1898 on Gettel Road in Sebewaing, Michigan, on property owned by John and Mary Mast. It served as a one room country school until Christmas of 1947, when only eight students remained and they were transferred to Sebewaing. Afterward, migrant workers lived in the building, and it was later moved to the Village of Sebewaing. In 1983 it was repaired, restored, and used by the Sebewaing Historical Society. It was donated, moved to this site in 2005, and restored to its original appearance, including a tin ceiling, light fixtures, chalkboards, a large wood and coal stove, and hardwood flooring. One room country schools are now almost gone, but in earlier days they played a major role in rural life.
