The first frame building in Tehachapi stood on this site, built by Mary and Bernard Kessing. In 1905, they replaced the original wooden building with a brick structure called the Kessing Building. It was destroyed in the 1952 earthquake. A stone plaque above the corner doorway bore the building’s name and completion date.
