First Presbyterian Church of Salem was entered in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places in 1974 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It is significant for its Romanesque and Gothic ecclesiastical architecture, its steeple structural design, and as a work of architect John McArthur, Jr. of Philadelphia. This property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
