A large bell hung in the belfry of the Old Monroe School, ringing over the valley and unifying the entire Granger community. Children came from all directions to beat its last clang. Some walked, others came in white topped horse drawn wagons or buggies, and often several children rode one horse. In winter, some arrived by sleigh. After the Old Monroe School was torn down in 1924, the bell could not be found.
