From 1917 to 1918, citizens of Berkeley County rendered loyal service to the country in the Great World War, and this tribute honors both their patriotism and the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the cause of humanity. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and erected in 1925 by the Berkeley County Memorial Association with voluntary contributions from the people of the county, it includes an honor roll headed "Lest We Forget" naming Thomas G. Adams, Ernest Ashwood, Harry Bittinger, Thomas W. Bowers, Earl E. Butts, Charles Carter, Henry L. Clapham, Paul F. Cole, Charlotte A. Cox, Abey Crawford, Rudolph E. Cromwell, Charles F. Fritts, Andrew J. Graves, Roy O. Henry, Lewis Holley, William B. Hudgins, Adrian C. Hutzler, W. Fitzgerald Jones, Levi M. Keyton, Alvin C. Lamp, Homer W. Lemaster, Allen G. Lewis, Calvin W.
